Detroit Lions Report: Lions Draft Suh and Best in the First Round

The draft had plenty of Drama last night. Luckily, (no thanks to Matt Millen) the Lions stayed out of the headlines by selecting the number one rated player in the draft in Ndamukong Suh with the second pick overall.

They also traded up in the bottom of the first round to get Jahvid Best, a running back out of University of California with the 30th overall selection from a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.

I’m not sure about the Best pick, just because he has had a history of injuries. I don’t hate the choice, but I’m a bit confused as to why they had to give up draft picks to move up. I guess for me, I was hoping to get another star defensive player.

That said, Best runs a 4.3 and he can break a long run at any time.

Detroit Lions Report: LB Ernie Sims Traded for TE Tony Scheffler

Ernie Sims’ time in Detroit is over. The often injured LB was shipped to Philadelphia for Tony Scheffler, formerly the TE for the Denver Broncos.

Detroit also received a 7th round pick. It seems like there may be another move in the making as this leaves a hole in the LB Corps where Sims was slated to start on the outside. There has been a rumor that Detroit may look to sign former Pro Bowler LB Keith Bullock who played for Jim Schwartz in Tennessee.

Detroit Lions Report: Lions Trade for Offensive Lineman Rob Sims

The Detroit Lions traded for starting Left Guard Robb Sims over the weekend. The Lineman was traded form Seattle for a 5th round pick. Sims started 14 games last year for the Seahawks and has been regarded as one of the leagues best pass blocking guards.

This was a hell of a move by General Manager Martin Mayhew, who continues to prove his mettle by making another solid football decision. The Offensive Line needed some serious upgrading and this move is certainly a step in the right direction.

Detroit Lions Report: Lions Rumored to be Trading for Rob Sims

Veteran Guard, Rob Sims signed a 1 year tender with Seattle which could make him available for trade. The Tender calls for a 4th round draft pick in compensation but the Seahawks could take less. Sims is a decent guard and would fill a need at Left or Right Guard for the Lions.

Oddly, Rob Sims is Ernie Sims brother from a different mother (no kidding!). Lions certainly could use a proven commodity at Guard to shore up the offensive line and lessen the need for offensive lineman in the upcoming draft in April. The Lions have the second overall pick.

Detroit Lions Report: Adam Pacman Jones is a Lion

There’s a report that’s being denied by the Lions still that Adam Pacman Jones is now a Detroit Lion. Let’s hope his off the field troubles are behind him and he can help in our Defensive Backfield and in our Special Teams return game.

Detroit Lions Report: Is Pac Man Jones Coming to Detroit?

There are some rumors flying that troubled defensive back Pac Man Jones could be coming to Detroit. Jones has ties to Head Coach Jim Schwartz from his days as a younger player in Tennessee.

This would be a huge mistake in my opinion. Last I heard he was trying out for the Canadian League. Send him back up there.

Detroit Lions Report: Lions Acquire Backup QB Shaun Hill

The Detroit Lions filled a need at backup quarterback today by trading a 2011 Seventh Round Draft Pick to the San Francisco 49ers for Quarterback Shaun Hill. Hill spent a couple years with the Lions’ Offensive Scott Linehan in Minnesota back on 2002. Hill recently went 10-6 as a starter with the 49ers before being replaced by Alex Smith.

Recently the 49ers signed David Carr to fill their backup spot.

Detroit Lions Report: Lions Sign DB Jonathon Wade and Re-sign TE Will Heller

The Detroit Lions are still making progress in the 2010 Free Agency market. They have now signed Defensive Back Jonathon Wade to a one year contract and Re-signed Tight End Will Heller.

In other news, the Lions cut Defensive End Dewayne White and signed Wide Receiver/Special Teams Player Brian Clark. Dewayne White has struggled with injuries the last few years and he became expendable with the signing of Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Detroit Lions Report: Lions will trade for CB Chris Houston

Sounds like the Lions will move a sixth round draft pick to Atlanta for Defensive Back Chris Houston. Houston’s been a starter for three years in Atlanta. With the acquisition of Dunta Robinson the Falcons felt that Houston was expendable in order obtain a pick in the 6th round coming up in April’s draft from the Lions.

The Lions had previously released Phillip Buchanon and will let Will James and Anthony Henry test the Free Agent Market.
