The trade deadline is February 19th. The Pistons have been faltering as of late and don’t look much like an average team. They look bad, out of synch – something’s just not right. After trading Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson, the Pistons have been on this steady decline. It seems to me that they can’t seem to read what Iverson is going to to with the ball, as I’ve seen many fumbled layups, making him less effective down the stretch.
That said, what should happen here? With first coach Michael Curry losing the team, maybe its time for Joe Dumars to make another heralded move. The Phoenix Suns are shopping perennial all-star big man Amare Stoudemire. Yes, that’s right – we could get Amare Stoudemire.
We’d have to give up plenty. I could predict that the Suns would want Rasheed Wallace (bye bye baby), a 6′11” big who refuses to post up, and maybe a Rodney Stuckey or Aaron Afflalo or some other starter. I say do it, no matter what. Rodney’s been our best player, but what is that actually saying? Basketball games are consistently won, much the same as football, from the inside out. Just ask Kobe Bryant how its worked out after Shaquille’s departure from the Lakers.
We’ve not had a dominant post player for a very, very long time. If this deal is possible, I get giddy over the possibility of adding Amare. I think he would instantly make us a threat in the East again. Amare is under contract through 2010, and we have mad cap room coming up – provided we can get rid of Rasheed and show Iverson the door. Rasheed’s huge contract is expiring, so this makes sense for the Sun’s too. If they demanded Stuckey, they would have their Steve Nash for the future.
