Posted by Joe in Detroit Lions Football on February 28th, 2009
The Lions have made some moves. They’ve signed three players so far this off season as the free agent signing frenzy began with some huge signings by the Washington Redskins as they payed up big for DeAngelo Hall and Albert Haynesworth.

Detroit Lions: Jon Kitna Traded to Dallas for Anthony Henry
Posted by Joe in Detroit Lions Football on February 28th, 2009
Jon Kitna’s finally out of Detroit. The Lions have traded last year’s the sideline cancer, the Halloween Trickster and Devout Christian to the Dallas Cowboys for a decent Cornerback in Anthony Henry. The Lions put Kitna on IR last year, after he exploded on the sideline during a game while arguing and looking like a baby.
Goodbye… good riddance, good luck, god bless.
I love this trade. What’s up with Maring Mayhew and the Cowboys? So far, Martin Mayhew has made all the right moves in my opinion. Way to go, keep giving away our garbage to the Cowboys for quality players and draft picks.
Wow… so far, this is awesome!
Hossa scores, but leaves hurt vs. Sharks
Posted by Joe in Detroit Red Wings Hockey on February 26th, 2009
The Wings looked strong tonight against the first place San Jose Sharks, but Marian Hossa left the game with an undisclosed injury. He scored a goal, and leads the team with an impressive 34 goals. Ty Conklin looked strong in net as he continues to put pressure on Chris Osgood, who will start in goal this Friday. The Red Wings did not announce the details of the injury yet, and I’ll post as soon as I find out. Let hope for the best; Hossa’s been very strong this year and looks like the stud player we thought he was going to be.
Redwings: Jimmy Howard to start, Osgood given 10 days off
Posted by Joe in Detroit Red Wings Hockey on February 21st, 2009
Well, well, well, we’ve not seen Jimmy Howard in a while…
Chris Osgood was given 10 days off by the Wings to clear his head and re-gain his game. Huh? Yikes, I guess Chris has not been on his game at all this year. After leading us to the cup last year, Osgood has really fallen off and he’s had the worst season of his career.
It sounded like earlier in the year, there were a lot of people blaming our defense.; despite missed time by Brad Stewart and Nick Lidstrom, our defense has held up well. In my opion, Osgood has stunk this year – I don’t think there’s any denying it. Despite what Pat Caputo (97.1 FM – The Ticket – Detroit) would tell you, Chris Osgood needs to go. Hello Ty Conklin – and now Jimmy Howard??
Ozzie, if you’re the hall of famer as Cuputo constantly claims you are, lets get your shiz together and start playing some quality goal.
Dave Birkett: Jeff Backus asked to move to Left Guard
Posted by Joe in Detroit Lions Football on February 19th, 2009
Dave Birket is reporting on his blog that Lions coaches and officials have spoken to their Left Tackle Jeff Backus about possibly moving to Left Guard on the offensive line. Reports say he was “receptive” about the idea.
http://davebirkett.blogspot.com/2009/02/backus-candidate-at-guard.html
I’m not sure Backus can play Guard but if he can, we could kill two birs with one stone here. He may even be an upgrade at Guard; one thing’s for sure: he struggled stopping speed rushers on the outside and stronger Defensive Ends seems to push right through him. He seemed like he likes to stand up a lot over there after the snap.
So, if this is true – I’m thinking that they might take a big left tackle first overall – or I suppose at #20, their second first round pick coming up in the NFL Draft. The Lions really need an upgrade to their line. Time will tell if this is true and if Backus can even do it succesfully. This is news comes after earlier this week, the Lions resigned Daunte Culpepper. Let’s hope this is a sign that they are not going to take Matt Stafford with the first overall pick.
Quickies: Hornets send Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma Thunder
Tyson Chandler was moved today as the NBA trade deadline gets closer to being over. The NBA trade deadline ends on Thursday of this week.
The Hornets got veterans Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith in return for Chandler. Chandler is averaging 8.8 points per game this year.
Lions restructure Culpepper’s deal, re-sign Hanson, Peterman
Posted by Joe in Detroit Lions Football on February 17th, 2009
The Lions have resigned Quaterback Daunte Culpepper, Kicker Jason Hanson and Offensive Guard Stephen Peterman. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Culpepper was due a roster bonus of 2.5 million later this month, but team President Tom Lewand said the deal was restructured.
This is all decent news but not ground breaking. I think Culpepper has a chance to be decent again and his re-uniting with former Minnesota Vikings coordinator Scott Linehan – the Lions newest Offensive Coordinator. The real gem in my opinion is resigning Jason Hanson. I was a little worried about that based on a report last week that the two sides were not close on making a deal.

Quickies: Raptors Trade Jermaine O’Neal for Shawn Marion
The Toronto Raptors sent Jermaine O’Neal packing south to Miami Beach in a trade with the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion. Also in the trade were the Raptor’s Jamario Moon for Marcus Banks.

I’m hoping this means that the Pistons are still in the running for Amare Stoudemire. The rumors are flying and the teams are breaking for the All-Star game this weekend.
